Recently, an Internet rumor circulated regarding the death of a New Mexico woman and its connection to her consumption of Vitamin Water. There is no credible evidence that the death of Paula Lopez was in any way connected to her consumption of Vitamin Water. Vitamin Water is a preferred sports drink that does not require refrigeration, tastes great and can be consumed in place of plain water.
There are no harmful substances in Vitamin Water, nor has the product been contaminated during manufacture. No other consumers have become ill as the result of drinking Vitamin Water, and there is no evidence that the product was tampered with after it was delivered to stores.
Vitamin Water is an excellent beverage choice for people of all ages and activity levels. It is as safe for children as it is for adults, and provides additional nutrition during high activity periods, as well as nutritional support for people who are ill or recovering from illness.
Vitamin Water is produced by Coca Cola, a highly reputable company with a long beverage-making history. If Vitamin Water were harmful or contained even small proportion of antifreeze in vitamin water, the product never would have been approved for sale. Coca Cola would never risk its long established reputation as America's most popular beverage maker.
In short, these rumors are completely false. The story takes advantage of a few key facts to target a popular beverage that is both healthful and completely safe. There is no evidence to suggest that Vitamin Water was inadvertently or deliberately contaminated, or that it was the source of the ethylene glycol that was found in Ms. Lopez's system. Further, when she died, she had absolutely no trace of ethylene glycol in her body.
